The Grand Hotel Passetto was inaugurated in 1958 and has always been managed by the Piermattei Family. Today, is Mrs. Ornella who manage the Hotel with the help of her daughters They continue dedicate the same passion and attention to detail that have always characterized the family business.
Speaking with Ornella Piermattei, it is still possible to perceive the pride with which she tells the story of when his parents started the business, creating both the Hotel and the Restaurant.
Born in Pietralacroce in 1901, Mr. Aldo Piermattei came from a family linked to the wine trade. First of seven children, at the age of 18 he enlisted in the army and participated in the historic enterprise of Fiume, led by Gabriele D’Annunzio. On his return, he was only 22 years old, he began to give vent to his passion, starting his restaurant business with his father. Initially, they both took over the management of an old tavern in the city, and soon were joined by Giovanni, a skilled and likeable cook who was trained to his profession in Switzerland.
In February 1933, Mr. Aldo married Maria Tebaldi, aunt of the famous opera singer Renata Tebaldi. With Maria's help, the business began to grow and in 1948 inaugurated the restaurant.
Exactly ten years later, in front of the characteristic circular building, the Grand Hotel Passetto was inaugurated, boasting a 1950s structure with characteristic sail coverings on the terrace above.
From that day, the city of Ancona was finally able to take advantage of the presence of structures able to welcome prestigious guests. Today, after 50 years, the Grand Hotel Passetto continues to be the symbol of high-level hospitality in the city.
